Early drug induced abortion is performed with preparations of mifepristone, amisoprostol and other preparations of similar action registered in Ukraine.
If you are sure you wish to interrupt pregnancy you need to know that this method requires your active participation.
Mifeprestone is a drug that blocks action of progesterone, the hormone that supports pregnancy. Mifeprestone allows to interrupt pregnancy in the early weeks. You need to intake mifeprestone pills not later than 49 days after the day of last menstruation. Abortion is performed by qualified obstetrician-gynecologist.
ATTENTION! The doctor needs to have special permission and certificate for use of preparations of mifepristone, amisoprostol and other preparations of similar action registered in Ukraine.
The method should not be used in the following cases:
· if the pregnancy is not ascertained;
· if abdominal pregnancy is suspected;
· if more than 49 days have passed since the day of last menstruation;
· on severe forms of bronchial asthma;
· on mifepristone and misoprostol preparations allergy;
· on contraindications to use of prostaglandins;
· on cardiovascular diseases;
· if a woman older than 35 years smokes more than 10 cigarettes per day;
· on renal insufficiency;
· on liver diseases;
· during breast feeding.
Drug-induced abortion has its limitations and inconveniences that you should be aware of:
1. Administration of mifepristone necessarily requires administration of misoprostol in 36-48 hours to reach maximum effect (in 95% of cases).
2. Uterine bleeding that starts soon does not prove effectiveness of the method. Removal of conceptus that occurs in several hours after administration of misoprostol can be incomplete. Therefore you need to be examined by obstetrician-gynecologist in 7-10 days after administration of misoprostol to ensure that the pregnancy is interrupted.
3. After administration of misoprostol painful uterine contractions appear, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are possible.
4. As with any abortion, uterine bleeding begins in most cases. Therefore you should not leave town and should go to the hospital where drug-induced abortion was performed in case of need.
5. New pregnancy is possible immediately after drug-induced abortion. You should use contraceptives because you should not get pregnant again during the first menstrual cycle after the abortion.
6. Do not forget to inform your doctor if you use anticoagulants, aspirin, corticosteroids, if you have complaints, breast-feed or have any of contraindicatons listed above. |
