Young skin has its own problems. Cosmetologist has to help to get rid of them.
Skin type definition
Researches of skin condition among young women aged 20 and older allowed dermatologists to determine six major types that can exist separately or in combinations.
Usually young women cannot distinctly determine their skin type. They don’t know whether their skin is dry, sebaceous, sensitive, prone to acne rash, whereas almost all these conditions can be present. They say most often that the skin is “unclean” or that there are skin problems. They usually deny presence of blackheads. Reasons of such indistinct self-appraisal may vary. On the one hand disturbing skin defects do not look like what is typically perceived as blackheads (inflammatory face covered with abscesses). On the other hand, nobody wants to “get stuck in childhood” and the skin invariably reminds about it.
As a result young women cannot choose appropriate makeup preparations correctly. This leads to excessive and unjustified use of various skin care masks, exfoliants, lotions etc… and unsolved problems.
Six main skin problems of women in the age of 20-29 years
- Enlarged pores - 17 %
- Reddening and inflammatory elements - 24%
- Sebaceous skin gloss - 25%
- Acne - 37%
- Thick skin with uneven relief - 38%
- Comedos - 45%
Dermatologist opinion
The type of skin that women itself have difficulties to characterize is described by dermatologists as physiological comedogenous skin. In this case the problem slightly differs from juvenile acne.
The nature of physiological comedogenicity has many factors. Presence of several factors that significantly differ from each other is typical to it. Every type of skin can be affected: sebaceous, mixed, normal, and even dry. Inflammation of adjacent tissues usually is absent or insignificant. This problem usually affects women aged 19 and older no matter whether they were afflicted with juvenile acne in the adolescence or not.
Visible symptoms of skin problems
- Uneven skin surface, closed noninflammatory comedos that form little grains on the skin surface. This defect is called “uneven skin relief” or “grainy skin”.
- Enlarged pores.
- Reddening that predict the appearance of some defect or, on the contrary, is a result of it.
- Acne rash that are not highly inflammatory and are not numerous. They are situated mainly on the chin and forehead.
- Open comedos are usually situated on the forehead and nose.
- Local skin gloss on the chin and cheeks
Nature of young skin problems
Epidermis structure damage. The following causes may lead to this:
- - different intensity of skin fat generation in sebaceous hair follicles that are situated in different parts of the face
- - dyskeratosis – disturbance of corneal layer cells renovation when the cells are peeled off too quickly from the surface of sebaceous hair follicle orifice epidermis or, on the contrary, are peeled off too difficultly. This leads to blocking of follicular orifice with the mass of corneal scales glued with skin fat.
Open comedos. This skin defect is the result of sebaceous plug appearance in the sebaceous hair follicle orifice. When skin fat contacts with air it is oxidized and turns black-and-brown.
Thus “problem” and “unclean” skin in this case mean not numerous small black comedos that are situated mainly on nose wings, forehead and chin.
Uneven skin is formed when combination of irregular skin fat production and dyskeratosis on the level of sebaceous hair follicles orifices takes place. At that small grains are formed on the skin surface. Microcysts or closed comedos are not accompanied with inflammation. If inflammation is observed then the problem is not microcysts but acne. “Problem” skin means not numerous microcysts on the forehead, chin, and in angles of mouth.
Enlarged pores may appear with every skin type as a result of excessive widening of sebaceous hair follicle orifice. When skin fat rises to the skin surface, it stays in the duct too long and causes the dilatation of follicle walls. It is visible as multiple enlarged pores.
In this case “problem” skin means the following: enlarged pores localized mainly on nose wings, cheekbones, and forehead.
Inflammatory elements. In this case it is a matter of inflammatory process in sebaceous hair follicle that accompanies blackheads appearance. Thus a red spot on the skin is either a forming blackhead or its trace.
In this case “problem” skin means small blackhead eruption and red spots, mainly on the chin, under the nose and on the forehead.
Local skin gloss is usually typical for sebaceous skin. However it may appear on some parts of the face with mixed and even dry skin. Skin gloss is caused by local increased secretion of the skin fat.
In this case “problem” skin means glossy skin on the forehead and chin.
Acne. In case of “young” skin acne has some peculiarities: its elements are very small and weakly inflamed. Usually there are not many of them, about 3-5 on the whole face. They usually appear before or during the menstruation or after strong overfatigue. |
