Ureaplasma urealyticum infection is similar to mycoplasmosis. Both pathogenic agents of these diseases occupy intermediate position between bacteria and viruses, belong to intracellular microbes, and are transmitted sexually. Risk factors for the development of Ureaplasma urealyticum infection are: * early beginning of the sexual life (before 18 years of age) * promiscuous sexual life * survived gynecological and sexually transmitted diseases * age groups 14-19 and 20-29 years. Usually the disease proceeds without symptoms. However without treatment it may causes several diseases: * inflammatory diseases of the small pelvis organs * cystic and renal calculi * sterility Pregnant women afflicted with Ureaplasma urealyticum infection often experience complications during pregnancy, premature births are frequent among them. Approximately one third of new-born girls have traces of Ureaplasma urealyticum on their genitals. This is caused by their infection from infected mothers. In future under the action of immunity the infection can be self-cured.
