Sexually transmitted diseases

Print

STD (sexually transmitted diseases) are several diseases combined into this group on the basis of the common infection channel.

As the name tells, pathogenic agents of these diseases are transmitted sexually. This way of transmission includes not only usual sexual act between a man and a woman, but also oral-genital, anal, and oral-anal sexual act.

Non-sexual infection with STD is highly unlikely. In fact the only significant non-sexual channel of infection is transmission of the disease from a pregnant woman to her child during labor.

No STD pathogenic agents are transmitted while kissing, using common bed linen, towels, bathroom, swimming pool, etc.

The danger of STD lies in the fact that some of them (ureaplasmosis, mycoplasmosic, clamidiosis, etc.) often proceed without symptoms. This may lead to serious complications if the patient does not go to see a doctor in time.
