Each woman wants to have beautiful, high, elastic breast. However age, pregnancy, breast-feeding, body weight loss, and skin elasticity deterioration lead to breast descent.
Indications for breast lift
Mastopexy or breast lift is a surgery that pursues the following goals: setting of normal breast height, placement of nipples and areolas on the top of mammary gland (areola size decrease and improvement of its contour and size is also possible); preservation of normal consistence.
Is hospitalization necessary?
The surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia, depending on patient’s desire and general condition. You will be hospitalized on the day of the surgery and undergo a short preparation to it.
Surgery duration is 1.5-3 hours on the average (depending on its complexity).
After the surgery the breast is bandaged with elastic bandages to reduce the risk of postoperative complications and improve the conditions for forming of newly “created” mammary glands. After a time bandaging will be replaced with special underwear.
Are there any cicatrices left after the operation?
Permanent cicatrices will remain on the skin after the surgery; their quality cannot be fully predicted before the surgery because the processes of cicatrisation are individual.
What complications may occur after the operation?
Ideal symmetry of nipples, areolas and mammary glands cannot be achieved, although striving for it is one of the surgery goals. Sensitivity of nipples, areolas and mammary glands usually decreases and then gradually improves; in some cases it can be totally lost. Edema and bruises can remain in the surgery area for several weeks. The breast will take its final shape after several months.
How long is the postoperative period?
Usually it is necessary to stay in the clinic for 3-5 days. Stitches are removed from postoperative wounds after 7-14 days. Usually light housekeeping work is possible in 5-7 days, usual rehabilitation period is 2 weeks.
It is necessary to wear special underwear (bra) for 1.5-2 months after the surgery to support and form mammary glands. Final forming of mammary glands takes place in 3-4 months after the surgery. |
