True leg crookedness is caused by shin bones deformation that declares itself by defect of internal contour from perineum to closed ankle-bones (so called bow leg) or absence of ankle-bones closure with closed thighs (knock knee).
False leg crookedness is a feature of lower extremities structure that declares itself as a visible crookedness but is caused not by bone deformation but by features of soft tissues distribution.
Leg shape correction in case of false crookedness is successfully achieved by shin implantation.
Correcting osteotomy in combination with external osteosynthesis is a method of choice for treatment of true leg crookedness. It allows eliminating extremities segments disproportion and increasing height.
This procedure is indicated to the patients with deformed or immature shin muscles, and in some cases with pronounced difference in leg calves. Asymmetry can be caused by inflammatory diseases, nerve damages, immobilization of an extremity, or congenital features. The operation can also be interested to body-builder to emphasize shin contours. |
